Opera Łódź Opener – 6 September 2026

September opens with an event launching the anniversary season of the Grand Theatre in Łódź. In the 2026/2027 season, the institution celebrates 60 years, marked by the outdoor concert “Opera Łódź Opener” on Dąbrowski Square. This is the event’s third edition, taking opera and ballet beyond the theatre stage.

The evening gala will feature popular excerpts from the world opera canon, Polish opera classics and arias from premieres planned for the coming season. Soloists Hanna Okońska, Anna Wierzbicka, Agnieszka Makówka, Bernadetta Grabias, Olga Maroszek, Dawid Kwieciński, Dominik Sutowicz and Arkadiusz Anyszka will perform outdoors, joined by the Grand Theatre’s choir, ballet and orchestra.

Opera Łódź Opener starts several hours earlier. From noon, a free family picnic will take place outside the theatre, giving children and adults a less formal look at how it works and what happens behind the scenes of opera productions. In the evening, the family programme will give way to the outdoor concert launching the anniversary season.

Wojciech Mann and “Request Show” – 6 September

On 6 September, culture will also come to Piotrkowska Street. The Schiller Passage will host an outdoor edition of Radio Nowy Świat’s “Request Show”, broadcast live by Wojciech Mann and Marian. The popular radio programme will move from the studio to the heart of Łódź.

The format will be familiar to listeners: participants can dedicate a song to someone close and chat with the hosts on Radio Nowy Świat. Everything will take place before an audience in the Schiller Passage, and admission is free.

The Łódź edition will also conclude the “Tour de Slezak” Radio Cycling Rally. The Radio Nowy Świat editorial team and listeners will cycle from Łódź to Sulejów and back, ending the trip at Sunday’s “Request Show”.

Błażej Krajewski “Human” – 16 September

Tomek Kołecki with a new show – 17 September 2026

The day after Błażej Krajewski’s show, Łódź audiences will have another chance to enjoy stand-up. On 17 September, Tomek Kołecki will perform at Klub Scenografia. After time in the United States, he returns to Polish stages with new material.

Kołecki focuses on relaxed audience interaction and an atmosphere more like chatting with friends than a performance marked by distance. In this format, he will present his latest set of jokes during another nationwide tour.

The evening will not consist solely of the main act. Piotrek Jaskuła and local comedians will appear before Kołecki, opening the Łódź show.

Łódź of Many Cultures Festival – 17–20 September

From 17 to 20 September, Łódź will become a space for dialogue about diversity, memory and identity. The Łódź of Many Cultures Festival will once again unite different art forms and perspectives, with events across the city. Over four days, audiences can attend concerts, shows, exhibitions, performances and meetings. A separate programme has been prepared for children and young people.

Deaf culture will be one of this year’s themes. The programme includes events with Daniel Kotowski, a visual artist and performer whose work explores sign language, the body and life in social space. On 18 September at the YMCA building, visitors can see his video performance “CRYING/TRYING” and a performance lecture.

37th International Festival of Comics and Games – 19–20

On the third weekend of September, comics, gaming and pop-culture fans will come to Łódź. Held since 1991, the International Festival of Comics and Games is the largest event of its kind in Poland and Central and Eastern Europe. This year’s 37th edition will occupy three Łódź venues, each with a different role.

Atlas Arena will again be the festival hub, with a trade zone and lecture rooms. Meetings with invited creators, autograph sessions, competitions and award ceremonies will take place here. Guests include American artists John Romita Jr. and Mike Perkins. Limited ticket packages will let fans collect a queue number for their autograph session without waiting in line.

Gamers will take over Sport Arena Łódź. The entire venue will be dedicated to computer and console games, as well as board and card games. The third festival venue is the EC1 Center for Comics and Interactive Narration, hosting exhibitions prepared for this year’s edition.

Premiere of “Niech żyje życie. Rapsodia” – 25 September 2026

At the end of September, the Kazimierz Dejmek New Theatre will present the premiere of “Niech żyje życie. Rapsodia”. This intimate production, directed by Tadeusz Kabicz, is based on a text by Przemysław Pilarski and explores love and closeness in later life. The creators were also inspired by stories and reflections from “Miłość nie rdzewieje”, workshops for seniors.

The play explores how feelings and needs change over the years. What remains of first love after several decades? What role do another person’s presence and sharing everyday life begin to play? Does the desire for romantic closeness really have an age limit? Rather than offering one answer, the creators draw on intimate stories and the characters’ diverse experiences.

Maciej Bisiorek, Barbara Dembińska, Jolanta Jackowska, Gracjan Kielar and Sławomir Sulej will perform on the Small Stage. The premiere will launch the theatrical run of a production that portrays love through mature characters as an experience that changes with us.

Light.Move.Festival.–25-27 September 2026

September will end with one of Łódź’s most distinctive events. The 16th edition of Light.Move.Festival., the Festival of Kinetic Art of Light, will take place from 25 to 27 September. This year’s theme, “Dreams”, will inspire artists to transform the city centre over three evenings using light, image and sound.

The festival route will feature mappings projected onto building façades, large-scale projections, light installations, and illuminated architecture and greenery. The Festival of Light uses the city itself: streets, squares, parks and historic buildings become part of the works. Installations can be seen, among other places, along Piotrkowska Street and in Staromiejski Park.

Music will once again accompany the light. BOKKA, Marek Biliński, Cochise, BEMY and Łódź-based Black Radio will perform at various points along the festival route. A walk between installations can thus be combined with concerts spanning different genres.

Light.Move.Festival. runs all weekend, so there is no need to see everything in one evening. Festival events are free, with programme points spread across different parts of Łódź city centre.
